The Rocky Mountain Horse

‘One Horse For All Occasions’

Rocky Mountain Horses are cherished for their gentle temperament and unique, smooth four-beat ambling saddle rack gait. The saddle rack is an additional intermediate gait and makes RMH comfortable to ride, even for long distances and on challenging terrain, making them popular for trail riding and endurance events.

Also known for their calm disposition, intelligence, and willingness to please, they love being around people and tend to form strong bonds with their owners. Bred for temperament, solid body colour and smooth gait, RMH are naturally hardy, easy keepers maintaining condition on a forage-based diet. They have great trainability and are an extremely versatile breed being suitable for most forms of equestrianism and all levels and ages of rider.

The Transatlantic Rocky Mountain Horse Club was created to bring together enthusiasts, breeders, and riders of the Rocky Mountain Horse across Europe. Affiliated to the Rocky Mountain Horse Association in the USA, we are proud to be an RMHA Regional Club. Our aim is to celebrate this versatile and unique breed, while also building connections that cross borders and strengthen our shared passion.

We provide a space for members to learn more about the Rocky Mountain Horse, exchange knowledge, and support one another via our social media sites — whether through breeding, training, showing, or simply enjoying these horses as companions. By linking communities on both sides of the Atlantic, we hope to preserve the breed’s heritage while encouraging its growth and recognition in new regions.

The Club is open to anyone with an interest in Rocky Mountain Horses—from lifelong breeders to first-time admirers. Together, we’re creating a network where information, resources, and experiences can be shared to help this extraordinary breed thrive far beyond its proud Kentucky roots.

I’m really happy to be a member of the TRMHC. I've learnt loads from the spring talk series, especially about the genetics and history of the breed. More generally, I like the support and community the club provides and love to see posts from owners around Europe. I’m not a fan of competing, but enjoy joining in with the monthly photo challenge. The recent Equilabs discount was the icing on the cake!

As a first time owner of a RMH the TRMH club is great for connecting with other like minded owners of the breed. I really appreciate the support and the learning as I go on this journey with my Rocky. Great value for money too!

I love that the TRMH club has connected me with other Rocky owners in the UK, and across Europe. It’s really inspiring to see how others train and develop their horses. I have made friends and gained support here and I can honestly say that my journey into gaited horse world would have been a lot more confusing without the club. Membership is great value for money.

Belonging to the TRMHC enables me to share experiences and learn from others from across the UK and Europe and connect with owners in the US. Club events and talks allow for members to meet and introduce their horses and make new friends. It makes owning a RMH even more special.

I love being a part of the TRMH, it really does feel like a family, the last clinic we all did together was absolutely fantastic, all of us together with our beautiful array of horses. TRMH makes you feel connected to everyone one, it’s a safe place you can ask questions and seek advice and everyone is really supportive of eachother. It’s great value for money and offers support to all members.

For me being part of TRMHC means I always have someone I can turn to, knowing I’ll be met with non judgmental support. For someone who’s backing a horse for the first time that has been extremely helpful. The clinics I have attended have all been very informative and have taken me to the next level with my understanding and development as a horse person.

Despite not even having a Rocky Mountain Horse yet, I’ve been made to feel very welcome by all the members. I’ve joined teams meetings learning more about the RMH origins and mechanics and joined the last clinic watching this unique breed in action, taking part in a variety of disciplines. It has all been a very helpful experience ahead of my youngster arriving next year.
